How long are we.....
Early this week we went outside and measured ourselves to see how long we all were. First we drew a line with chalk at the feet and the head of our partner's body as they lay on the concrete. Then we measured the length between the two lines with our feet. We had to make sure one foot went directly in front of the other. Some of us had bigger feet than others and so all of us were different lengths. So during our measurement unit we have learned how long we were when we were born and how long we are now that we are 5 years old. It is very interesting!

Natalia had a little lamb...............that wasn't so little!
For show and tell on Wednesday this week Natalia brought her pet lamb to our class. We went outside and were all able to touch it. Thanks Natalia and your mum for this opportunity.

Measurement
We have been learning how to measure the length of things. We have used lots of different objects that we found in our classroom to find out how long or tall things are. Mrs Ross found out from our parents how long we all were when we were born and we used things like multi-link cubes, wooden blocks, coloured rods or even our hands to find out our birth length. Wow... some of us were as much as 26 cubes long. Next week we are going to find out what our length is now that we are 5.

All three paintings are now finished and we are so proud of them. Hope you all like them and come along to our school art exhibition and place a large bid to purchase one at the silent auction.

Room 14's Paintings
We are working on creating pieces of art that we all have a hand in making. We want our class art work to have koru patterns on it. So we practised by drawing some koru on paper. We spent a lot of time getting our patterns just right!
From here, our teacher and one of our class mums cut out our koru designs and glued them onto cardboard. We will now be able to use them as a template to reproduce our koru patterns.
The boards we want to use as our paintings are quite big and firstly needed to be undercoated. Then we divided them into small squares or rectangles so we all have a space each to work on. Each of us chose the colour we wanted to paint the background of our own space.
The boards are now drying ready for the next step....

A visitor
At the end of term three we had a very special visitor come into our class. It was a Monarch Butterfly. Derek and his mum found it on their way to school one morning. We all had a close up look at it and then we went outside and put it on a bush so it could fly away and be safe.

Kindy Visit
Recently when Chayanne came with the Nayland Kindergarten children for a visit to Room 14 she brought her friend Elmo with her. Chayanne is due to start school early next term.
"It was nice of you to bring your friend to meet us Chayanne. We are all looking forward to you joining us at school soon."

Show and Tell
In room 14 we have a time when the children can bring something to show and tell the rest of us about.
Lately we have had some interesting items coming to school.
Cameron brought in some crab bodies that he had found at the beach. The children decided that if we counted the amount of crab pincers in the pile of body parts, we would find out just how many crabs there were. Obviously one crab would have two pincers.....
Erin came to school with a very interesting book that she had found at the library with her mum. The book was all black and had raised pictures that you could feel with your fingers. It also had a lot of raised dots which formed the words to the book...... This was a book for someone who is blind. We were all very interested in how a blind person could read a book.
